Professor Tsuneo Yamada introducing Nime High-quality digital learning materials are one of the essential requirements for further progress of educational reform using Information Technology. Under the limitation of human and financial resources, it is a common issue among many countries or institutions how we can maintain sustainability of their development, accumulation and utilization. Sharing and reuse of digital learning materials is one of the reasonable solutions. In my presentation, I will introduce the recent challenges in Japan, which promote the sharing of educational information and the reuse of digital learning content. NIER (National Institute for Educational Policy Research) constructed NICER (National Information Center for Educational Resources) mainly for K-12 Education in 2001; NIME started Educational Information Portal Services in 2003 and reorganized it as a gateway for higher education and vocational training, that is, "NIME-glad (Gateway to Learning for Ability Development)" in 2005. In 2004, NIME also established a global alliance ("Global Learning Objects Brokered Exchange", GLOBE) with ARIADNE (EU), education.au limited (Australia), LORNET (Canada) and MERLOT (USA), in order to support international exchanges of high quality learning materials. This presentation also overviews our current technical and management issues, especially in the relationship with GLOBE. Martin Wolpers Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License (CC BY-NC-SA)
